If you want to sell your iPad, it’s helpful to know which iPad model you have. Potential buyers will want to know that and other information like the storage capacity and whether the iPad is Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and cellular.
Apple labels all its iPads with just “iPad” on the back. You won’t find “iPad Mini 4 (4th generation) Wi-Fi only” on the back of an iPad. However, there is a model number on the back of every iPad that identifies the type of iPad, the generation, and its wireless connectivity capabilities. There is also a model number in the “Settings” app that will allow you to find out more information about your iPad.
Today we’ll show you how to find both types of model numbers, and where to find out more about your iPad using the model number found in the settings.
Find The iPad Model Number On The Back Of Your iPad
If you only need to know basic information about your iPad, take the iPad out of your case and look at the bottom of the back. You’ll find a model number printed below “iPad”. The location differs depending on the model.
The model number will start with an “A” followed by four numbers. For example, “Model A1538” is the iPad Mini 4 with Wi-Fi only. If we had the iPad Mini 4 that has Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, the model number would be “A1550”.
Once you find your iPad model number, refer to this Apple support page to identify your iPad model.
Find The iPad Model Number In The Settings App
If you want additional information about your iPad, you can find the model number in the “Settings” app. This number can be entered on a webpage (discussed in the next section) to view more specifications, or specs, about your iPad model.
Tap the “Settings” icon on your iPad’s Home screen.
Tap “General” and then tap “About“.
Find the “Model” number on the “About” screen. It starts with “M” and ends with “/A”. This number is actually Apple’s order number. See the next section to find out how to use this number to get more information about your iPad.
Get More Detailed Information About Your iPad Model
To get more detailed information about your iPad, visit this webpage. Enter the “Model” number from the “About” page in the “Settings” app in the “Enter Mac, iPod, iPhone or iPad Identifier” box and click “Lookup“.
A table of specs for your iPad displays, including the processor in your iPad and its speed, the amount of “RAM“, and the “Storage” options. The “Model” number from the back of your iPad also displays here. All the storage options for an iPad model have the same specs.
To view even more information, click the link at the bottom of the table.
You’ll see additional specs for your iPad model series. You can even download a PDF version of the manual for your iPad.
