Alienware x17 r2 Gaming Laptop Specs, Pros and Cons with Features

The Alienware x17 series, released by Dell at the end of last year, features an entirely new chassis design in comparison to the Alienware m17 series. The Alienware x17 R2 is the result of the company’s 2019 lineup overhaul, and it has 12th-generation Intel Alder Lake-H processors and GeForce RTX 3070/3080 Ti graphics, in replacing of the 11th-generation Tiger Lake-H and RTX 3060 options of last year. Other improvements include updated display options, compatibility for MUX and Advanced Optimus, and faster RAM (from DDR4-3466 to DDR5-4800).

The Alienware x17 R2 shares the same chassis as the Alienware x17 R1, with the exception of the above-mentioned internal upgrades. We recommend checking out our evaluation on the x17 R1 as our existing remarks on the chassis, Cherry mechanical keyboard, and ports are equally pertinent on the x17 R2.

  • Ultra-slim, one-of-a-kind sci-fi aesthetic
  • High-powered graphics and processing with a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and Intel Core i9 from the latest 12th generation.
  • The ability to personalise the illumination of each key and the entire chassis is a nice touch.
  • Discreet and effective Cherry MX mechanical keyboard, available as an add-on

  • High price to begin with (and sky-high test configuration)
  • The portability is diminished by the slim (but not incredibly light) design.
  • Reasonably noisy and warm while under stress

Alienware x17 r2 gaming laptop specs (prices start at $2,249.99; we paid $3,999.99 for our review unit) is an update to last year’s model that aims to improve the premium gaming laptop’s performance. Our most costly review setup ever features an Intel “Alder Lake” Core i9 processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics, going all out on the two most important components. The x17 R2’s performance is undeniable, but it isn’t better than that of its rivals. The laptop’s trademark thinness doesn’t make it any more portable than the original, and it actually reduces its power potential and raises the price. Affluent consumers who adore the Alienware design might consider this laptop, but we think the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 and the Origin EVO17-S are better overall.

The x17 R2: A Mostly Internal Upgrade

Alienware introduced the X Series last year, which is comprised of updated, thinner versions of their popular M Series laptops available in a variety of display sizes. Version 2 of the x17, the largest of the X Series laptops, reintroduces the original design while updating the machine internally and adding new features. The laptop is the same size as before and is surprisingly slim for a 17-inch gaming laptop.

The R2 has the following exact dimensions (HWD) and weight (6.82 lb): 0.82 x 15.7 x 11.8 inches. We wonder, as we did with the first iteration, what the point is of a somewhat thinner design if the laptop is still large and heavy. When it comes to gaming laptops, a slimmer design typically equals worse cooling and less power due to the fact that weight and mass are more important for portability. The Asus Strix Scar 17 measures in at 1.11 inches thick and 6.39 pounds, making it one of the thinner but still quite heavy gaming laptops available today.

However, the design and construction of Alienware have not lost their previous excellence. The futuristic aesthetic is very nice, especially in white. The x17 R2 is commensurate with the brand’s ideals, looking futuristic and gaming-oriented without being flashy. The high-quality design is easily noticeable in the competitive market.

Q1: Is Alienware 17 R2 good for gaming?

The Alienware x17 R2 combines excellent gaming and processing speeds, a top-notch screen and a robust, good-looking chassis, and it’s only handicapped by an expected high price and unfortunately poor battery life. It’s arguably the greatest 17.3-inch notebook computer for gamers.

Q2: Is Alienware X17 good for gaming?

When it comes to gaming laptops, the Alienware X17 R1 is undoubtedly one of the most stylish and powerful options. The laptop’s sharp angles and well-placed lighting earn high marks for aesthetic appeal. It’s also a great gaming rig because it can play nearly any game at max settings with smooth framerates.

Q3: Is Alienware still a good gaming laptop?

The Alienware 17 R4 is a highly configurable laptop that offers unprecedented performance for a single-GPU machine, in addition to changeable lighting and cutting-edge features. When it comes to premium laptops for gaming, this is our number one recommendation.

Q4: Does dell own Alienware?

Alienware, situated in Miami, creates powerful computers designed specifically for gamers. In 2006, Dell, headquartered in nearby Round Rock, Texas, purchased the firm. Alienware “has not compromised performance” since being acquired by Dell, according to Azor.

Q5: Is Alienware Dell good?

If you’re all about high-end video games, high processing power, and a large storage area, Alienware is your obvious choice. Also, Alienware products are better for those who prefer Windows and are willing to carry around extra weight.
