Amd Radeon RX 6900 Powerful and Pricey Review
Amd Radeon RX 6900. With the fully-enabled Navi 21 GPU and 80 Compute Units, the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT has replaced the Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 as the company’s flagship product. Our GPU Benchmarks list the most recent generation of GPUs at the top because they are among the most capable graphics processors on the market (if we use the term “available” loosely). The Radeon Pro Duo (2016), a very limited-run dual-GPU card, was the last time AMD sold a GPU for $1,000 or more prior to the release of the 6900 XT. By competing with the RTX 3080, AMD hopes to offer performance on par with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090 at a price point $500 lower.
AMD’s RX 6000 and RTX 30 series graphics cards
This is all beside the point, of course. The RX 6900 XT, as well as the rest of AMD’s RX 6000 and RTX 30 series graphics cards, are still incredibly hard to come by even now, eight months after their official release. Although the RX 6900 XT is just 55% more expensive than the MSRP, it is still a lot more than we’d recommend paying, as shown by our GPU pricing index, which takes into account the prices of the various cards on eBay. This evaluation is being updated to provide the most recent information while the benchmark scores will remain unchanged. Recent assessments, such as that of the RTX 3080 Ti, provide a comprehensive picture of how various components compare in terms of performance, but until prices return to something resembling normalcy, purchasing a graphics card from the latest generation is still a major pain in the you-know-what.
While it’s great that the GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 are less than the Radeon RX 6800 XT and 6900 XT, there are a few issues with this comparison. As a first step, the video memory (VRAM) of the RTX 3090 is greater than twice that of the RTX 3080. Furthermore, the memory bus is larger, and there are 20% more shader cores. Finally, it enhanced power by 10% over the objective and typically provided better performance in business applications. The RX 6900 XT, on the other hand, is equipped with 10% more shader cores than the 6800 XT. And that’s it!
All right, let’s cut to the chase. The RX 6900 XT isn’t appealing as a purchase after reading the specifications. Although the RTX 3090 is not necessarily a better value than the RTX 3080, it does have some advantages that make it a better choice for gaming. All this is largely academic at the moment because of the severe shortage of modern graphics cards. Have fun with your $999 RX 6900 XT if you can find one. But it continues to sell out just as rapidly as its lesser brothers — faster, in fact, since supply of the RX 6900 XT tends to be considerably more limited considering it requires a fully-enabled Navi 21 chip. Yields of that quality of chip won’t be higher than the partially disabled chips in the 6800 XT, which are still nowhere near sufficient to meet demand.
Q1: Is the RX 6900 XT a good investment?
The RX 6900 XT leaves a little to be desired in ray tracing performance, and it isn’t the fastest in every game, but it has all the hallmarks of an enthusiast-class GPU that it should have at this price. The RX 6900 XT is a high-end graphics card that rarely needs to pause for a breather thanks to its core, the huge Navi 21 GPU.
Q2: What is the RX 6900 equivalent to?
An Nvidia RTX 3080 is comparable to a 6900xt. Many tasks that are currently being done by one GPU can be performed by the other. Both are capable of producing sharp images at 4k resolution. Though the 6900xt has more RAM, the RTX 3080 offers better frame rates.
Q3: Is RTX 3090 a better graphics card than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT?
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3090 is more energy-efficient than AMD’s Radeon RX 6900 XT. However, in order to reach its full performance potential, it requires 20% more energy. This happens mainly on no-RT workloads.
Q4: Is the RX 6900 XT capable of 4K gaming?
AMD’s RX 6900 XT and Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti are two of the best graphics cards you can buy today. Both are top-notch when it comes to 4K gaming, but only one can be the victor.
Q5: Is RTX superior to Rx?
Here we have the 1080p results first, and we can see that the RTX 3080 is only about 3% slower than the RX 6800 XT. Removing the top and worst results has little effect on the margin, while removing only Metro Exodus makes the RTX 3080 about 4 percent slower on average.
