Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says that Apple is working on a new iMac that could come out in the second half of this year. The new iMac is said to have a 24-inch screen like the old one, but it should have a more powerful M3 chip made with a 3nm process.
Gurman says that the new iMac won’t go into mass production for at least three months, but it could still start shipping in the second half of this year in the same blue, silver, pink, and orange colors as the old one. The All New iMac With M3 Chipset
This year, we are looking forward to new Macs like the 15-inch MacBook Air and the Apple Silicon Mac Pro. But a new iMac hasn’t been talked about much. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has now told us what to expect from the next iMac, including the chip, size, colors, and a possible release date. This morning, Mark’s Power On newsletter talked about the iMac and other things.

He said that people ask him most often once a week when a new iMac will be released. He says that the good news is that the next-generation iMacs, which have the code names J433 and J434, are in a very advanced stage of engineering validation testing (EVT), and Apple is currently testing the desktop in production.
So far, Apple’s lower-end MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers have used standard “M1” and “M2” chips, while its higher-end MacBook Pro computers have used “M1 Pro” and “M1 Max” chips. The “M1 Ultra” chip is used in the Mac Studio, and it’s likely that “Ultra” and “Extreme” chips will also be used in the Mac Pro.
If Apple keeps this chip naming scheme, lower-end M3 chips could be in Apple’s entry-level machines, while M3 Pro and M3 Max chips with up to 40 compute cores could be in Apple’s high-end Macs. There have already been rumors that an M3 iMac is being tested at Apple’s headquarters.
The All New iMac Design
When Apple released the new iMac in 2021, it improved the all-in-one design by adding a variety of dual-color options and a larger 24-inch screen that was even thinner than before at 11.5mm or 0.45 inches. Even though there are things we’d like to see, like a height-adjustable stand and a smaller chin, we don’t think the design will change much, unless there are new color options.
The All New iMac Display
The 24-inch iMac has a 4.5K Retina display with 500 nits of brightness, an anti-reflective coating, and True Tone. Even though the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros have better screens thanks to miniLED and ProMotion technology, we don’t think the second-generation iMac’s display will change much. The All New iMac M3 Chipsets
The 13-inch MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini models that came out in November 2020 were the first ones to use an Arm-based M1 chip. The M1 Chipset has been made to give amazing performance and efficiency for flagships. Also, the company released the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets in October 2021.
The M1 Max is a more powerful version of the M1 Pro, which has more GPU cores than any other chipset. In June 2022, the tech giant showed off the M2, the successor to the powerful M1 chip. When compared to the previous generation, the M2 Chipset made more small changes.
The Chipset wasn’t very good, as users said it got hot and unstable with just a little use. The chipsets are made for Apple’s line of MacBooks and iPad Pros. Most likely, the next generation of the M series chipset will be Apple’s M3 Chipset, which will be used in the next line of MacBooks and iPad Pros.

Leaked information says that Apple is working on more than one M3 Chipset. Ibiza, Lobos, and Palma are the codenames for the same thing. We can assume that Apple’s MacBook and iPad will have different levels of performance because they use different M3 chips. Like the M1 chip that came before it, the company put this chip in the lower-end MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and MacBook Air.
The M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets are in the higher-end MacBook Pro. If the same thing happens with the upcoming M3 Chipset, you can assume that the entry-level MacBooks will use lower-end chipsets and the higher-end MacBooks will get chips like M3 Pro and M3 Max. The higher versions will also use the 40 compute cores.
The All New iMac Processor
Gurman has repeatedly said that Apple’s M3 chip will be in the next generation of the 24-inch iMac. There are rumors that the new chips will be made using a new 3nm process that will make them faster and use less power. This should make them better than the M2. By skipping a generation, the next iMac will be much better than the current one.
The M1 iMac comes with 8GB of RAM by default, but you can add up to 16GB. Apple’s M2 Macs can be upgraded to 16GB or 24GB, so it’s likely that the iMac will also have these memory options. The All New iMac Colors and Sizes
Mark says that the next iMac will only come in a 24-inch size, just like Apple only worked on a 24-inch version of the new iMac last year. As for colors, the next-generation iMac is being tested with the same silver, blue, pink, and orange options as the M1 iMac. The report doesn’t say anything about yellow, green, or purple, but those colors could also be back.
The All New iMac Price
But when Apple added the M2 Pro and M2 Max processors to the MacBook Pro and Mac mini in January 2023, it also raised the prices of the current iMacs in countries other than the U.S. For instance, each model of iMac in the U.K. now costs £150 more. Since Apple has changed prices to reflect changes in the exchange rate, we don’t think prices will go up again. Apple changed the price of its iMacs in 2021, and the base model now costs $1,299. We think that the price of the next model will stay the same, unless it gets a big update like the MacBook Air.
The All New iMac Release Date
In the summer of 2022, Apple put the M2 chip in the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro, so it makes sense that it will soon put an M2 chip in the iMac. The latest rumors, though, say that won’t happen. Instead, Apple might skip the M2 chip and go right to the M3 in late 2023.
