The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus vs. Samsung Galaxy S22: Design Comparison

To begin, despite their varying sizes, the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 seem very similar. They have the same contour design as Samsung’s Galaxy S21 from last year, but it’s been cleaned up for a more modern appearance.

Galaxy S22 Plus has a 6.2 x 3 x 0.3-inch screen, while the basic S22 is 5.8 x 2.8×0.3-inch and weighs in at 170 grammes. A larger battery may be housed in the S22 Plus because of the increased size of the S22’s battery.

There is a distinct difference in appearance between the Galaxy S22 Ultra and other S22 models. Rather than looking like its smaller siblings, it resembles the blocky Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Camera module on rear doesn’t have contour design as Plus and S22 have. P-shape camera module Instead, each of the lenses protrudes slightly from the back.

Like the Galaxy Note, the Ultra has a space for the S Pen. The S22 Ultra is Samsung’s way of making amends for the blunder it committed by not releasing a Note model in 2021.

Gorilla Glass Victus Plus has proven to be a sturdy backbone for all three Galaxy S22 models, but we still recommend a case regardless of which one you choose.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. Galaxy S22 Plus vs. Galaxy S22: Display comparison

There is a 120Hz refresh rate on all three phones, thanks to their Dynamic AMOLED displays. Refresh rate can be lowered to 1Hz for static graphics and scaled up smartly by the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The non-Ultra S21 variants of last year’s Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus have a 48Hz refresh rate.

With a 6.8-inch QHD+ screen on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and a 6.6- and a 6.1-inch screen on the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22 Ultra stands out. They have high-definition screens.

Samsung’s VisionBooster technology, which adjusts brightness, contrast, and colour calibration based on your surroundings, is present in all three phones. Samsung has yet to confirm or deny speculations that the Ultra and Plus feature 1,750 nits of brightness, as previously reported.

Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. S22 Plus vs. S22: The Cameras

This year, Samsung is attempting to catch up to Apple and Google in the camera department. The quad camera configuration of the Galaxy S22 Ultra makes it the clear winner of the competition. A 108MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide are on board. Two 10MP telephoto cameras are included in the Ultra, which follows the lead of its predecessor. A 10x optical zoom telephoto lens is available on the Ultra, whereas the other can only go up to 3x. Combined, they allow the S22 Ultra to achieve a digital zoom of 100x.

If you’re looking for something a little less flashy, then the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 aren’t going to cut it. Both cameras contain 50MP primary sensors, as well as 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto lenses (with 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom).

The Ultra’s front camera is a 40MP shooter with an 80-degree field of vision. There is an 80-degree FOV selfie camera on the non-Ultra versions, however it is only 10MP.

Samsung isn’t content with just making a powerful camera, they’ve also gone all-in on computational photography. For those who are familiar with the top camera phones from Apple and Google, this is nothing new. In addition to its algorithms and calibrations, Samsung is focused on other aspects of its products.

The new enhanced portrait mode is a notable feature. When photographing people and animals, this is a superior portrait mode with better comprehension of where the subject is located in relation to the background, resulting in a stronger bokeh effect. Software-based portraits have a problem with cutting off some people’s hair when the phone is too aggressive with its blur radius. People with curly hair are more likely to suffer from this.

This year’s camera features, like as Zoom Lock, which utilises AI to stabilise your zoomed-in images, are expected to be back. On paper, Samsung appears to be on the verge of taking the Android photography crown this year.

Performance and battery life: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. Galaxy S22 Plus vs. Galaxy S22

Galaxy S22 variants with the new 4nm octa-core technology will be available this year. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the US and the Exynos 2200 in Europe also are most likely the chipsets in question. It’s not clear why Samsung had to be shady. Only the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a model with 12GB of RAM, which is the only noticeable difference between the three phones in terms of performance (8GB on the base model).

The 4,500 mAh battery in the Galaxy S22 Plus is 300 mAh less than the one in the Galaxy S21 Plus from the previous year. Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Plus lasted for 9 hours, 46 minutes and 57 minutes in our battery life tests, where we set a phone’s display to 150 nits and asked it to continuously load web pages over 5G. At 60Hz and 9 hours and 53 minutes in adaptive mode, the Galaxy S21 Plus was the clear winner here.

As long as the 60Hz mode was enabled on T-Mobile, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra managed to last for 10 hours and 18 minutes. This is less than the S21 Ultra’s 11 hours and 25 minutes of battery life.

samsung galaxy s22 vs s22 ultra

The Galaxy S22’s 3,700 mAh battery was the worst performer in our battery test, with the regular model clocking in at just over 8 hours on the 120Hz adaptive rate. That’s around two hours less than the typical smartphone battery life. While the Galaxy S23 is expected to include larger batteries, it may be best to hold off on purchasing one until the following year.

As far as charging speeds go, the two larger phones charge at 45W wired, while the normal S22 charger charges at 25W. Wireless charging of up to 15W is available on all three devices. As with the S21 series, we may expect no chargers to be included in this year’s models.

Galaxy S22 vs. S22 Plus vs. S22: Software comparison.

With the three Galaxy S22 versions, Samsung’s One UI 4.1 runs on top of Android 12. As a result, users can expect more personalization options, more privacy protections, and a slew of other improvements and bug fixes from Samsung on top of Google’s work.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra’s Note-like features will be the most noticeable change. Rather the handwritten notes can now be saved to Office 365 and Outlook, among other enhancements. You also may copy and paste content from photographs and messages into notes, too, according to Samsung. Predicting your handwriting and writing direction helps the system feel more lifelike, making it easier to write.

In addition to the Galaxy S22, Samsung has committed to four years of platform updates and an additional year of security fixes. As a result, Android 16 will be released in 2026, and the last security patch will be released in 2027 for each new model. That’s a long time for an Android phone, even if it’s not Apple-level support. To put it another way, it is superior to what Google is now delivering.

When it comes to smartphones, there are three main categories: ultra-high-end, mid-range, and low-end.

When compared to the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is a whole different beast. Thankfully, Samsung recognised the error of its ways and relaunched the Galaxy Note instead of the foldable Galaxy Z Fold range. However, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will likely be the best smartphone for the majority of consumers, even if Samsung’s Fold series remains the top dog.
