Sony has released the WH-1000XM5 noise-cancelling headphones. The new WH-1000XM5 features a strapless sliding design and silent joints, as well as more cylindrical yokes and a slimmer headband. The new ear cups can swivel sideways but not fold inwards as the previous generation could.

The WH-1000XM5 comes with a larger carry case to handle this. Also, the WH-1000XM5 is equipped with an eight-microphone system and two QN1 audio processors. The WH-1000XM5 is said to feature stronger noise cancellation than its predecessor, especially in the mid and high frequencies.

New drivers are also included in the WH-1000XM5. Although the 30mm drivers are smaller than the 40mm speakers used in the previous generation model, Sony claims that they have improved high-frequency response and sound quality. The SBC, AAC, and LDAC Bluetooth codecs are still supported by the headphones.

Bluetooth Connectivity

Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity with multipoint connection, Google Fast Pair and Windows Swift Pair support, ambient noise mode, gesture control, wear recognition for play/pause, and Google Assistant/Alexa support are among the additional features. With ANC on, the WH-1000XM5 has a battery life of 30 hours of audio playback and 40 hours without.

The headphones are powered by a USB-C port. The Sony WH-1000XM5 costs $400, which is $50 higher than the WH-1000XM4, which is still available. Black and Silver will be the two hues available.

The XM5 will be available in black and platinum silver for the time being, with a new collapsible carry case for simpler storage. It’s worth mentioning that the headphones are no longer foldable. The packaging for the Sony LinkBuds is plastic-free, and the headphones themselves are made from recycled plastic from vehicle parts, however, Sony does not specify what proportion.

When it comes to audio enhancements, active noise cancellation is the major focus, with two processors processing data from no fewer than eight microphones to provide a greater experience than previously. Sony has added a new Integrated Processor V1 to its current HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1, and the company claims that the specifically designed 30mm drivers also help with ANC.

Q1: When will the Sony WH-1000XM5 be available for purchase?

In ‘Late May,’ Sony will introduce the WH-1000XM5. The official store claims it will be available shortly, but Sevenoaks says it will begin shipping on May 20th.

Q2: What is the price of the Sony WH-1000XM5?

At £379/US$399/€420, the XM5 is more expensive than its predecessor. This is a £29/$50/€41 rise. Sony is currently taking pre-orders.

The Bose QC45 is now a much more affordable choice at £319/US$329, however, the Apple AirPods Max remains a more premium competitor at £549/US$550.

Q3: What are the specifications and new features of the Sony WH-1000XM5?

The most noticeable difference between the WH-1000XM5 headphones and the WH-1000XM4s is the new design. Sony calls it a “noiseless design,” and the headband has a stepless slider for easier adjustment.

Sony also sells a synthetic soft-fit leather that “fits snugly around the head, relieving pressure on the ears and shutting out extraneous noise.”

Q4: Will Sony release new headphones in 2022?

The release date for the Sony WH-1000XM5: The newest Sony headphones are expected to be released in August 2022. Price of Sony WH-1000XM5: There’s no word on pricing yet, but Sony’s previous models have all cost around $350 / £350 / AU$550, so we’d expect the XM5s to cost around that.

Q5: Is the Sony WH-1000XM4 a true audiophile model?

Not only that, but the quality of the DAC and Amp section they employed inside the headphones allowed them to create a great-sounding wireless headset. The sound of the XM4 is clear and realistic, with warm midrange tones and a somewhat exaggerated bass region.

Q6: Is the XM4 water-resistant?

The XM4 is waterproof and features a Fast Pair, a fit test, and an 8-hour battery life. Ambient noise is virtually eliminated thanks to the high-end noise cancellation.

Q7: What is the battery life of the Sony WH-1000XM4?

With a battery life of 30 hours, you’ll be able to go on long journeys with ease. With the optional AC adapter, you can receive 5 hours of charge in just 10 minutes if you need to top up quickly.

Release date of the Sony WH-1000XM5: We anticipate that Sony will introduce their new pair of headphones sometime in the month of August 2022. Sony WH-1000XM5 price: There has been no news yet on the price, but given that Sony has maintained pricing that is fairly similar across its product line, we anticipate that the XM5s will be priced around in the neighbourhood of $350, £350, or AU$550.
