This year, Google didn’t simply use some numbers and statistics to find out which Android apps and games are the best. This time, they handed the decision over to the actual users in their first ‘Player’s Choice Awards’. Over a million Android users took the time to vote for their favorite choice in various categories. Check out the winners below and try them out yourself!

Best Android apps & games of 2013

Most addictive game – Knights & Dragons

Knights & Dragons is a non-stop online RPG game in which you build up your own base, and build up a powerful army of knights. If you are familiar with games such as Clash of Clans, then you will easily get along here since they are quite similar.

In Knights & Dragons you also have the possibility to create or join a guild, message your guild members and wage wars against enemy guilds. Besides playing multiplayer battles, there are many other quests available which allow you to unlock other knights, gold, armor and other cool stuff. If you like Clash of Clans chances are high you also like this game!

Best franchise game – Bejeweled Blitz

If you ever browsed Google Play for new games you probably stumbled across one of the Bejeweled games. The ‘Blitz’ version of the famous puzzle game takes the game to a much faster level by making every round last only 60 seconds. The basic premise is to match three or more jewels to crush them. Sounds a bit retro to you? That’s why it’s so successful.

Best game based on a movie – The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-Earth

This game follows the same principle as other online strategy games such as Clash of Clans or Knights & Dragons. You basically have to build up your city and forge a powerful army to fight goblins or other players. But the cool thing is that it’s set in Tolkien’s Middle-Earth and contains known characters from the movie. There are many quests that can be done, especially if you want to get a good overview on how the game works. This game follows the free to play principle with in-app purchases to speed up or buy things.

Best app for enhancing the everyday – Duolingo: Learn Languages Free

I’m not surprised about that one. Duolingo is an amazing app to learn a new language. Doesn’t matter if you have no clue about a language or if you just want to keep your knowledge fresh, Duolingo is the app you should use. I’m using it myself to refresh my Spanish and am a big fan of the app.

Duolingo uses several methods to teach you a language, including audio to get a better at listening and pronouncing foreign words. My favorite feature are the progress bars of all the modules which decrease over time, encouraging you to redo modules to keep words and grammar rules in your head.

Until now, you’re able to learn Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and English. And all that for free.

Best Google app – YouTube

Well, there’s not much I can say that you don’t know already. It’s YouTube, so if you use it a lot or not you are familiar with the app. Although the app was already quite good, in the last major update, Google added a great new feature to the app. Now, you are able to watch a video in the bottom right corner of your screen while browsing for other videos. This way, your video consumption experience isn’t interrupted anymore when you look for other videos to check out.
