You Wouldn’t Download A Car, Would You?

You Wouldn’t Download A Car, Would You?

I don’t want to start a discussion about piracy, but here’s something we (or at least I) did not expect to happen a few years ago.

Do you remember when people against online piracy said that it’s basically stealing because you “wouldn’t download a car”? Well, this analogy sure backfired. With 3D printers becoming more and more popular, you’re now able to do so.

Part of Honda’s new “global branding project”, this website offers 3D printing data for five Honda concept cars for free. You can – literally – go ahead, download a “car” and print it at home. Of course, there is no engine, no electrical parts and no drive train. So no, you can’t drive that car. It’s only a model. But that doesn’t matter.

It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come and I’m curious to see which things we can print in a few years. Maybe we’ll finally be able to print more RAM or a (decent) Pizza? What would you like to print at home?
