PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program to Shut Down After Nearly Three Years

Sony has officially said that its PlayStation Stars loyalty program will terminate, less than three years after it started. The official PlayStation Blog was the place where the firm made the announcement. They said that the program would no longer accept new members right away.

Existing Members Still Have Time to Redeem Points

The PlayStation Stars program is no longer accepting new members, however, current members can still collect points until July 23, 2025. After that date, you can only use points to get things, and the last day to do so is November 3, 2026. If you decide to cancel your membership now, you will lose access forever, and all of your points will be lost.

Digital Collectibles Remain Accessible

The PlayStation Stars digital collectibles, which are 3D digital models that users won through the program, will still be available. Sony said that these things, including the Jim Ryan bobblehead, will still be available “for the foreseeable future.”

Why Is PlayStation Stars Ending?

Grace Chen, PlayStation’s Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise, talked about the decision in a public statement:

“We’ve learnt a lot from looking at the kinds of activities that our players like the most since we started the program. As a company, we are always changing to keep up with player and industry trends.”

She went on to say that Sony will change its focus based on what it has learnt, even though the current iteration of the program is ending. At this time, though, there is no word on a straight replacement or new rewards scheme.

What Was PlayStation Stars?

Sony’s PlayStation Stars, which came out in July 2022, was their answer to Microsoft’s Xbox Rewards. Players may earn points by buying things from the PlayStation Store or by doing things like playing games, filling out surveys, or testing out new system functions. You could trade these points for real money and get other rewards.

The application has through a number of adjustments throughout time that made it less interesting to users. In October 2023, Sony cut the length that points could be used from 24 months to 12 months and made it so that PlayStation Plus purchases could no longer earn points. This was an indication that the program was slowly moving away from its original vision.

The Future of PlayStation Rewards

It’s not obvious what Sony’s next step in consumer loyalty will be now that PlayStation Stars is ending. The huge gaming company hasn’t said anything about a substitute program or any other way to earn prizes. But players may look forward to a better and more interesting experience in the future, based on what they’ve learnt and what users have said.
