You will be able to establish outposts in specific regions of Starfield as you venture throughout the vast expanses of space, enabling you to contribute to the development of a galactic commerce network. In addition to being a smart method to earn some money, using these systems to import and export products will assist you avoid having to leave any goods behind and run the risk of becoming overburdened.

By setting up Cargo Links at your outposts, which will act as the throughlines for moving products around the galaxy, you can create this system. As you continue to go across the stars, having these things operational will greatly simplify your life.

How to Create Cargo Links?

Cargo Links is a really simple procedure to set up and develop, and once you have it figured out, you can quickly have a sizable network.

Finding and constructing two Outposts is the first phase. This may be accomplished by setting up an Outpost Beacon on the desired location and then allocating the necessary funds to construct them there. You have complete control over how buildings, objects, and other elements are arranged.

To begin the building process, you will need to determine the ideal location for your Outpost and set up a beacon. To accomplish this, use your scanner and push the prompt to position the beacon that is displayed to you.

When the beacon image appears, it will be green, indicating that it is safe to install there. When it is grayed out, it indicates that it is in a restricted region; when it is red, it indicates that you cannot position it because of the angle of the ground and other factors.

After dropping the beacon, you can start constructing your Outpost anyway you see fit inside the designated space. You can go on to the next phase after you have two Outposts. Once the Outposts are constructed, you must choose the Cargo Link option from the building menu for each one.

Make sure you have the necessary resources and decide where you want it built.

Outpost Cargo Link Cost

  • 2 Beryllium
  • 2 Zero Wire
  • 12 Aluminum
  • 20 Iron

To have enough material to construct a Cargo Link at each Outpost, you will need to double each of these amounts.

After each Cargo Link is constructed, locate the console that manages it, then turn it on to start moving between the two. The trade route is open once you have connected the two Outposts by interacting with the Cargo Link at each.

In Starfield, How to Activate a Cargo Link?

In the sci-fi role-playing game Starfield, you will be required to construct and activate a cargo link for your outpost, particularly during a cargo mission. However, you may find it difficult to activate the link through the intersystem because there aren’t many tutorials available at this time.

In other words, nothing happens when you attempt to engage with the intersystem (see figure below).

Your freight link may already be operational if all associated machinery and installations have been connected appropriately. In this instance, a starship would be called forth by engaging with the intersystem.

The ship that receives the resource deliveries is not just any ship. And no, you won’t receive any visible or aural input from the intersystem.

In the event that no ship shows up, it may be en route to its destination. This indicates that it has at least once already touched down on your cargo link. For example, the freighter departed after loading half of the stipulated delivery quantity (450 units) to transport the uranium to its destination during our maiden cargo voyage containing the material. After that, it went back to our freight link to get the remaining load.

To put it briefly, a cargo link does not require manual activation. Once the power supply is fastened and all of the “accessories” are attached correctly, it begins operating automatically. A mission marker may already be operational even if it is on the cargo link’s intersystem.

Even after a freighter has arrived to retrieve resources, the marker remains visible. In this instance, you can just disregard the marking.

The difficulty is that, as seen in the above image, a functional cargo link appears to be totally idle. There’s just nothing, not even sound, save for a few dimly flickering landing lights. As a result, you must be fully aware of how to connect the energy stores, extractors, transfer containers, and link itself—all of which we will discuss next.

In Starfield, you must initially have at least one extractor in order to provide resources to a recipient. The build menu, which appears when you interact with the outpost signal, is where you’ll discover this.

An extractor typically needs to be put on an ore vein, as the game itself mentions at times. The colored ground in the scanner view makes it simple to identify such a vein.

Because the extracted resource requires somewhere to go, an extractor needs to be connected to a transfer container. You create an output link to make this connection.

Either point at the extractor or the container in build mode, then right-click on a PC to accomplish this. Before you can work with objects, you may need to use the Tab key to close the component selection menu.

The connections should appear as shown in the screenshot below.

The output container of the cargo link needs to be directly attached to the transfer container. As long as one end of the “connection cable” docks with the container, it makes little difference if it is broken, as in our example. Only the power supply remains, and that’s nearly it.

Although they are not required to be connected to the extractors or to each other, wind turbines are advised as a power source for the extractors. Although they only generate three units of energy per turbine—a uranium extractor, for instance, requires five units—wind energy is constantly accessible, thus fuel is never an issue.

The cargo link itself requires power to operate, just like the extractors. However, helium³ is used for this instead of fuel or wind energy. Setting up a gas storage is necessary to store this gas, and it can be found in the outpost signal’s build menu.

Fill the container with Helium³ by interacting with the gas storage as soon as it is in position (on a PC, press “R” to transfer). Lastly, as seen in the image below, connect the storage to the cargo link’s intersystem. After completing these steps, your cargo link becomes active automatically and transport ships can use it right away.
