Exploding Kittens is the next Kickstarter hit

There are many Kickstarter campaigns available. Some are successful, others not. And then there are the ones which just explode. Now imagine Matthew Inman from The Oatmeal teaming up with Elan Lee and Shane Small, two seasoned game designers. A few days ago they launched a Kickstarter campaign for Exploding Kittens, a Russian – roulette kinda card game with… exploding kittens. Sounds fun? It probably is. Let’s have a closer look.

What is Exploding Kittens?

The gameplay is quite simple: You draw cards and whoever picks the exploding kitten card looses. Just like in Russian Roulette. The only thing that can safe you is a defensive card or one of many other funny special cards. Consequently, the longer you play the game the funnier it gets.

The game can be played with 2 to 4 people, aged 7 or above. It comes with 56 cards and is safe-for-work and kid-friendly. However, a NFSW extra deck is also available.

What’s so special about Exploding Kittens?

The Kickstarter campaign was launched 2 days ago (19.01.15) and hit its funding goal within 20 minutes. 1000% of the funding goal were reached in less than an hour. That’s massive. At the moment (about 2 days in) it received more than $2m USD in funding, with a $10.000 USD goal.

The game starts at $20 USD for the regular deck and $35 USD for a regular deck and the additional NSFW cards. The game will ship in July 2015 and seems to be the next Internet-hyped game card just like Cards Against Humanity. If you’re into kittens, explosions and laser beams, this might be perfect for you (or a friend).
