Bang-On Balls
Since Banjo-Kazooie, Bang-On Balls is the best 3D game I’ve played. Without a doubt, I have not played every game of this genre that has come out in the last 25 years. Most of the ones I’ve tried, I’ve given up on within the first few hours. I did stick with a few, like Crash, Yuka-Laylee, Super Lucky Tales, and my favorite, Hat in Time. But Bang-On Balls has been the most fun for me. And it’s been making me wonder why.
What is it about this game that makes me want to play it instead of the AAA hits that are ready for me to review? It’s the crazy, sloppy, bouncing battle. The game worlds with lots of secrets and a lot of detail? The crazy boss fights? After that, I got it.
It’s the sounds. I keep going back to Bang-On Balls because, other than Minions, it has the best voice actors for silly characters. Many other games and movies try this and fail. In the game, there are thousands of balls, and each one has something to say. All of them are very funny.
My favorite is in the game’s first big world, which is based on Viking mythology. A graveyard full of zombie balls is something you would expect to find when you go exploring like a Viking. The zombie balls kind of stumble and roll toward you, and they all start chanting “Zzzzz zombie zzzzz zombie zzzzz!” in tiny, squeaky sounds. It’s both cute and funny.
That’s right, it must be the sounds. Or rather, the fact that the sounds were carefully made shows in every part of the game of this. Bang-On Balls was made by Exit Plan, a company that was started by two people who left CD Projekt Red to work in other countries. With their background, these people have given Bang-On Balls all the care that you’d expect from someone with their skills. To be honest, it’s hard to believe this is an independent game.
There is a lot about Bang-On Balls that screams AAA production standards. This game is beautiful to look at in every way, with fun and interesting features everywhere. I’ve been to some of the most dense and full-of-things video game places in my life. The sound, the graphics, and the fact that there are no bugs at all make the game high-end and clean.
Bang-On Balls: Chronicles Next-Gen Update
Bang-On Balls: Chronicles is a 3D pinball game that looks a lot like old favorites like Super Mario, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic, and Jak and Daxter. But it has one big difference that makes it stand out: Online co-op for 4 players and split-screen for 2 players in Bang-On Balls: Chronicles, players can play the whole game with friends at the same time, which is different from most 3D platformers.
Bang-On Balls: Chronicles co-op players aren’t tied to each other either; they can explore each of the game’s large sandbox levels on their own, finishing tasks, collecting items, and more. One of the best things about Bang-On Balls: Chronicles is that players can change how their characters look by collecting items in the game’s worlds. In some games, this kind of material is sold through microtransactions. But Bang-On Balls: Chronicles doesn’t have any paid DLC that changes the way the game looks.
New players might be interested in the 3D game Bang-On Balls: Chronicles after the next-gen update, and old players might find it interesting again. The people who made Bang-On Balls: Chronicles have said that more new content is on the way. It will be fun to see what else the game has in store. For now, PS5 and Xbox Series X players who want to get all the Bang-On Balls: Chronicles achievements and medals should be ready to do some strange things.
Conclusion
You’ll be glad to know that Exit Plan added a new area called Wild West if you can’t wait to jump and randomly visit more places! It has five areas: Mexico, Saloon City, Oil Fields, Beaver Town, and Gold Mines. Each of these areas also has sub-areas, as if that wasn’t enough! There are 80 new things to find and use to make your character unique.
Get ready to ride horses, steal trains, and use rail carts. There are a lot of cool new tools in this, like a lasso, revolver, shotgun, bow and arrows, and even TNT crates! Some problems come with all this new traveling, fun, and loot, though. Get ready to fight four new kings and four small kings.
