Lenovo exhibited a huge selection of new products at CES, including a laptop with twin screens and a desk lamp with a webcam. Now, though, Lenovo has returned to Mobile World with an array of upgraded notebooks and tablets, lead by two fascinating additions to the ThinkPad Z line. Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2
When we look at the Z13 Gen 2, we can’t help but think of HP’s work with coffee grounds and cooking oil as eco-friendly alternatives. At CES 2023, it showed off a few of its machines. Lenovo used this chance to make some changes to the features and add new parts to the second-generation ThinkPad Z13.
It also made some changes to make the computer more eco-friendly. One of our favorites was the first ThinkPad Z13. We can’t wait to get our hands on the latest version because it got 4.5 stars and was at the top of some of our laptop charts.
We don’t know everything about the Z13 Gen 2, but we do know that it will have Radeon graphics and the latest AMD Ryzen 7000 U-series processors. This laptop will also work with up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory and up to 4TB of PCI Express Gen 4 solid-state storage, so you can switch between tasks quickly.

All of this will be available on a 13.3-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1,920 by 1,200 pixels. Touch-input support will be available as an option. You can also set up the system with a touch screen that is 2,560 by 1,600 pixels.
Both versions of the screen will be up to 400 nits bright and show all the colors in the sRGB color space. All Z13 Gen 2 models will have an electronic shutter and a webcam with a 1080p resolution. Lenovo has two USB 4 ports, an audio jack, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, and a switchable 4G LTE radio.
Lenovo was able to make the unit just over half an inch thin, and the whole thing is 0.55 by 7.9 by 11.5 inches (HWD). The Z13 Gen 2 is light because it is a business ultraportable. It only weighs 2.6 pounds, which is a tenth of a pound less than the light Apple MacBook Air.
Lenovo will also sell a 16-inch version of the ThinkPad Z16 Gen 2 that has a bigger screen and can be outfitted with an AMD Radeon 6550M dedicated GPU. This version is better for people who create content, of course. Lastly, Windows 11 will run on all new ThinkPad Z laptops, and you can choose the Pro version if you want.

Specs and Features of ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2
Display
The 13.3-inch display has a 16:10 aspect ratio. In addition to the standard FHD+ model, there is now a 2.8K OLED variant available. Lenovo offered me with a ThinkPad Z13 with a Full-High-Definition Plus (FHD+) display, so the display may be the least intriguing element of the gadget.
The most exciting configuration is 2.8K OLED, which I’m certain is beautiful. But for now, we’re stuck with the FHD+ model, which I’m beginning to assume Lenovo provided for battery life. Obviously, fewer pixels provide longer battery life than more, and I am unimpressed with the Ryzen 6000 processor, which we will address shortly.
The exhibit is quite impressive. It permits contact, and as you can see from the outcomes of many experiments, it is robust in every respect. It does not stand out in any way, but possesses no negative characteristics. According to tests, it supports 100% sRGB, 79% NTSC, 84% Adobe RGB, and 84% P3.
These are all outstanding scores. I’m convinced that every OLED model falls within the 90th percentile. The maximum brightness was 466.9 nits, which is exceptional considering Lenovo only promised 400 nits. The contrast ratio reached a maximum of 1,670:1. They all have excellent grades.

Webcam
Lenovo’s reverse notch design provides a bit extra space in the top bezel for the 2.1MP webcam, which is housed in the top bezel. FHD resolution is vital in the age of telecommuting, which is indicated by the camera’s 2.1 MP resolution. The new Evo specification compelled Intel-powered computers to achieve this feat, so I’m thrilled to see it on an AMD laptop as well.
Keyboard
The width of the keyboard’s keys is 1.35mm. On this touchpad, there are no physical buttons. The Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 keyboard has 1.35mm keys, the typical depth for ThinkPad keyboards. It debuted with the ThinkPad X1 Nano and the ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga, and has since appeared in a number of additional designs, including this one and the ThinkPad X13s.
Some ThinkPads include a 1.8mm keyboard, although previous models such as the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and the ThinkPad X1 Yoga utilize a 1.5mm keyboard. As previously stated, the keyboard is nice and precise, and the key depth is 1.35mm.
Lenovo is required to integrate this keyboard on all ThinkPad models. It is more modern and exceptionally well-executed. The TrackPoint, which is situated between the G, H, and B keys, is the only component of this laptop that is patently obsolete.
This has always been the case with ThinkPads, a holdover from when Windows touchpads were worse. It must vanish sometime, but that time is not now. Still in use by companies like HP and Dell, but primarily for the most popular models.
Lenovo continues to include this feature on every ThinkPad. Also, I would like to point out that the Ctrl key is placed to the left of the Fn key. On the majority of other ThinkPads, the Fn key is situated on the left, which is quite annoying because it differs from the operation of every other laptop.
It’s great to see the Ctrl button in its proper location. Touchpads on ThinkPad computers have also been updated. First, the touchpad is now tactile and a pleasure to operate. Evidently, there are no physical buttons at the top, which are frequently used with the TrackPoint.
This area can be utilized as buttons or as an extension of the touchpad due to the haptic touchpad. It is a welcome change, as ThinkPads normally have small touchpads because buttons occupy important real estate.

Processors
The ThinkPad Z series, which debuted the year prior, has been redesigned. The ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2 and Z16 Gen 2 models include the most latest AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors, particularly those based on the Zen 4 architecture. A discrete AMD Radeon 6550M GPU is now available as an upgrade option for the ThinkPad Z16 if you’re looking for a bit more power.

TrackPoint
The Z13 Gen 2’s TrackPoint is one of the most interesting new features. It’s that familiar red-nub mini joystick in the middle of the keys, and it works with buttons just below the space bar. I’ve always admired Lenovo’s determination to keep this famous IBM laptop feature from a bygone era, but I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a bit of a useless add-on.
Lenovo’s new TrackPoint software looks like it could breathe new life into a feature that has been around for decades. Lenovo has updated the TrackPoint so that it has a capacitive touch surface that, with a light double-tap, shows a small applet on the screen that is divided into four quadrants.
Then, you can click or tap on these function areas to do simple things like change the brightness and contrast of the camera, find out if the microphone is muted and make changes to it, or turn on Microsoft Dictation.

Sustainability
They want to keep the idea that their laptops are good for the environment, just like most other laptop makers. Let’s start with where all the lithium and cobalt come from Lenovo continues its quest for sustainability. The company’s Z13 Gen 2 laptop is made with flax plant fiber and even more recycled materials. This is the most recent thing the company has done.
This new material made of natural fibers is stuck to the top cover, which is made of 75% recycled aluminum. The material is made from the fibers of the flax plant, which are 100% an agricultural product. This material is used to make the screen cover, so the color is called “Flax Fiber Bronze” by Lenovo. The flax material is also available in a standard aluminum color for the new Z13.

Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2 costs INR 1,49,999, which is quite expensive. But after looking at all the specs and features, the price is definitely worth it.
Conclusion
You will get support for Wi-Fi 6E and microphones that work with Dolby Voice. This means that in Zoom meetings, you should look and sound good. But my favorite new feature is the TrackPoint Quick Menu, which can be opened by double-tapping the company’s signature red nub.
This brings up a window where you can quickly change things like the camera settings, mic volume, voice dictation, noise suppression, and more. You can even choose which settings to see, making it easy to get to the things you change most often. I think this is a great way to add new features to a classic part like the TrackPoint.
