- Download and Install: Get the Zoom app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and open it.
- Start or Join a Meeting: Enter a meeting as usual.
- Access Controls: Tap the screen to reveal the controls bar.
- Open Chat: Tap Participants, then at the bottom of the list, select Chat.
- Send a Message: Type your message in the chat box and tap Send. To message a specific person, tap the arrow next to “Send to:” and choose the recipient from the list.
- View New Messages: New messages will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap Participants, then Chat to view them.

As the host of a Zoom meeting, you can manage chat settings to control how participants communicate. Here’s how to adjust chat settings on both desktop and mobile:
- Start Your Meeting: Set up and begin your Zoom meeting or webinar.
- Access Chat Settings:

- Mobile: Go to Participants, then select Chat.
- Open Settings: Click on More to access chat options.
- Choose Chat Permissions:
- For Meetings: Select from options to allow attendees to chat with no one, with the host only, with everyone publicly, or with everyone publicly and privately.
- For Webinars: Choose to allow attendees to chat with no one, with all panelists (including the host), or with all panelists and attendees.
