How Grew To 10k Unique Monthly Visitors In 6 Months

Exactly six months ago, was relaunched with a new concept, new design and with a new goal in mind. The last months have been stressful, interesting, exciting, funny and, especially, informative. In this post I am going to tell you how we managed to become a 10k / month blog, what we’ve learned on the way and what our goals for the future are. But first of all I want to say THANK YOU to all our readers – you are awesome!

The Beginning

When we first started of, we were not really sure what marketing- and technology-related topics should publish: Industry news, interesting guides or rather a collection of interesting things we find on the internet. After a few months of trial & error, we were able to determine what’s important to become a successful website:

  • Use original, unique content that your target group searches for
  • Know your target group
  • Use social media to drive traffic to your website
  • Create link-worthy content
  • Have a properly configured web server and make sure to use a content delivery network service
  • Consistency

This list is not complete because some things differ from website to website. I’ve only listed a few things that worked great for us.

Content Is King

Original, unique content is important to generate relevant traffic to your website and build links. Both, search engines and readers enjoy great content. It’s more likely to be shared on social media, other websites will link to your website and you’ll ultimately generate more relevant traffic. Make sure to research relevant topics using Google Trends, check for traffic on certain keywords using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and see what your competition is writing about.

Creating infographics can be a great way to build links to your website. Make sure to create content that is relevant for websites in your industry and build relationships with other businesses to exchange guest blog posts.

Know Your Target Group & Drive Social Media Traffic To Your Website

Know your target group. Find out when they are online and usually browse your website. Research which social media networks they frequently use. If you’re website is rather B2B focused, don’t solely rely on Facebook and Twitter. Make sure to use other online communities like LinkedIn as well! Answer questions, talk to people and try to generate traffic from websites like RedditΒ or Quora.

Have A Properly Working And Fast Website

Having a properly configured website is crucial to enhance your visitors’ reading experience and generate more organic traffic. We’ve experienced a huge increase in organic traffic after implementing a content delivery network system. This can be done quite easily and is fairly inexpensive.


Be consistent with publishing fresh content on your website. Don’t force yourself to post something everyday when it’s not relevant. Don’t write articles only because of time pressure if you don’t have anything good to share with your readers.

Publishing articles on a regular basis will not only bring back former visitors, but also seems to have a positive influence on your search engine rankings.
