In the past few years, if you wanted a foldable phone, you probably only had two options: the Samsung Z Fold or Z Flip. Other foldable brands, all of which are made in China, have stuck to only selling in China, for whatever reason. This made it strange that the market for foldable phones in one country was so competitive. The only company that sells phones everywhere else is Samsung.
The good news is that Chinese companies are finally ready to start selling foldable phones outside of China. Honor will do this very soon, and rumors say that OnePlus might do the same. But the Find N2 Flip from Oppo is the first to be sold outside of China. Even though it won’t make it to the US, the fact that it will sell in some parts of Europe and East Asia is important because competition makes the best phones better.

Oppo Find N2 Flip
Find out right away that N2 is more familiar than Oppo’s new clamshell phone. The company didn’t try anything new this year. Instead, they stuck with the same design but made some important changes. The 7.1-inch display on the inside is now much brighter, reaching a peak of 1,550 nits, and the 5.54-inch display on the outside is slightly bigger because the side bezels have been made smaller. The main foldable phone from Oppo is still set up horizontally. This makes the phone wider and easier to hold than the Galaxy Z Fold series when it is closed.
Oppo Find N2 Flip: Display
If we use the ridiculously high standards set by the latest premium slab flagships, the Find N2 Flip’s OLED screen is not the most pixel-dense (1080 x 2520) or brightest (500 nits sustained, 1,600 nits peak). But the 6.8-inch OLED screen on the Find N2 Flips holds up well when compared to foldable screens like the one on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
The maximum brightness is still lower than Samsung’s, but the screen doesn’t have a deep groove and the animations in Oppo’s software are smoother. The screen works well because the refresh rate can be set anywhere from 1 to 120Hz, and the colors don’t change much when viewed from an angle. When you run your finger up and down the screen, you only feel a slight dimple, as opposed to a deep depression on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

In comparison, the faint crease on these Chinese foldables makes the sharp crease on Samsung’s foldables appear unattractive. Samsung’s justification could be based on the official water resistance rating of its foldable devices. To date, however, no Chinese foldables have received such ratings. However, neither evidence nor an official statement suggests that the crease is the result of water resistance.
Oppo Find N2 Flip: Chipset
Curiously, the Flip N2 employs MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000+ SoC rather than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip. MediaTek’s chips are perfectly competent, and the 4nm Dimensity 9000+ is a flagship performer that can compete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 despite being less potent than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In addition, Android phone users believe that only low-end and mid-range phones utilize MediaTek chips.
Oppo Find N2 Flip: Battery
As previously stated, the Find N2 Flip’s 4,300mAh battery can be charged with the included 44W charging brick. The Samsung Flip 4 features wireless charging and an official IP rating, neither of which are present here. The phone has excellent haptics and stereo speakers for a device of this size. The hardware package is overall excellent, despite being unoriginal.
Oppo Find N2 Flip: Camera
Oppo Find N Flip 2’s primary camera features an IMX890 sensor with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/1.8 aperture. This is an excellent sensor for a small foldable phone, with a larger sensor than the primary camera on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
One of the new features of the IMX890 is its omnidirectional focusing, which enables every pixel in the sensor to lock focus and produce a somewhat natural-looking bokeh in photographs with a distinct separation between the subject and background. I’d like to highlight a few things based on the preceding examples. First, the colors are quite pleasing, especially during the day.

They have a slight increase in contrast while retaining their natural appearance. This is due to the company’s collaboration with the German camera manufacturer Hasselblad, which resulted in the so-called “Hasselblad color tuning. The second is the bokeh in photographs with a subject in the foreground.
This is inconsistent, however, due to a combination of hardware and software tricks. Why use the 32MP front-facing camera when the primary camera is so much better and the secondary display is large enough to serve as a viewfinder? The image produced by the front-facing camera has superior exposure and significantly more detail.
Oppo Find N2 Flip: Software
The Find N2 Flip, which operates on ColorOS 13 based on Android 13, behaves identically to other Oppo flagships when unfolded. The animations are silkier and more fluid than most other Android user interfaces. Samsung’s OneUI has only recently caught up to the S23 series in this regard, whereas ColorOS is packed with gesture shortcuts and customization options.
In fact, Oppo/OnePlus pioneered many UI customization options that Google introduced with its Material You theme in late 2021, such as the ability to change the overall UI color scheme from the notification panel to the app tray. After taking a screenshot with a three-finger swipe down, it is awkward to return to simultaneously pressing the power and volume-up buttons.
Oppo Find N2 Flip: Performance
During the tests, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chip did a great job of running this phone as a general smartphone. I have to admit that you wouldn’t watch a two-hour Genshin Impact session on any phone, let alone a small, thin clamshell that wasn’t made for the job. But when two media workers who play mobile games were asked about the Find N2 Flip, they said it was good but not great. For example, it can run PUBG at 60 FPS, but not at the highest graphics settings.
The phone won’t have any trouble with common smartphone tasks like taking pictures, scrolling through social media, texting, and reading words. There hasn’t been any lag, app crashes, or anything else out of the ordinary in the last 10 days. The only problem is that the resolution of the video keeps going back to 1080. The rendering time was fine when I used the app PowerDirector to edit a few 30-45 second videos for Instagram Reels. It wasn’t as fast as the Pixel 7 Pro’s Tensor G2, but it wasn’t any slower either.
Oppo Find N2 Flip: Price
The model of the Oppo Find N2 Flip with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage costs £849 in the U.K., and preorders start today. The product will be sold in the rest of Europe and Asia in the coming weeks. The phone has been on sale for a while in China, where it costs about 5999 yuan, or $850.

Conclusion
Like the larger Find N2, the Oppo Find N2 Flip is a well-made, well-designed foldable phone with hardware construction and polish that can compete with anything made by Samsung. If you like the clamshell design, the Find N2 Flip doesn’t take it to a whole new level, but it does make it a little bit better because the cover screen size and aspect ratio are better. The big question is whether the Z Flip 4 or the Find N2 Flip is better. Oppo’s flip phone has a better-looking screen and a better main camera, but Samsung’s device is more resistant to water (it has an IPX8 rating), can be charged wirelessly, and has better software with no major bugs.
